downtown

Dispite the gentrification and homogenation
of the East Village and downtown in general,
there are still some older buildings with character
that stand out as a reminder of an earlier
time in the history of downtown San Diego.

Again, the words gentrification and homaginization seem to be used in a derogatory manner. If your so in love with old stuff why don't you take a trip to Italy where they are so backward that they leave buildings that are 500 or 600 years old or older standing around. Do you understand the word PROGRESS? I think not.
